Travel by Air

Several airports offer a convenient starting point for your trip to the convention. Remember that New England is a popular vacation destination. We recommend that you make your travel arrangements early and that you reserve your rental car at the same time that you book flights.

Portland International Jetport

The Portland (Maine) International Jetport (PWM/KPWM) is served by Delta, United, American, JetBlue, and Southwest with direct service to Atlanta, New York-LaGuardia and JFK, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago-O’Hare, Newark, Washington-National and Dulles, and Philadelphia. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National maintain rental counters at the airport terminal. Augusta is about one hour by car from the Portland Jetport. (When making your flight arrangements, don’t confuse Portland, Maine — PWM — with that other, left-coast Portland — PDX ! )

Boston’s Logan Airport

Logan Airport in Boston (BOS/KBOS) is one of the country’s busiest airports. All of the major U.S. air carriers offer flights between Boston Logan and their other hubs. It is also served by many major European airlines. Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty are located in the airport rental center. Augusta is three hours by car from Logan Airport in Boston.

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT/KMHT) is located in Manchester, NH, about 2 hours and 45 minutes by road from Augusta.  Delta, Southwest, United and American offer direct service to Atlanta, Detroit, New York-LaGuardia, Baltimore, Chicago-Midway and Chicago-O’Hare, Orlando, Tampa,   Newark,  Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Washington-National.  Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National operate at the airport.

Bangor International Airport

If your vacation plans include a visit to Acadia National Park before or after the convention, you may want to consider the option of Bangor International Airport (BGR/KBGR) ! From Bangor, ME, it is about one hour and 20 minutes by car to Augusta, and the same distance to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Delta, United and American serve Bangor with direct service to Detroit, New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia and Washington-National. Avis, Alamo, Budget, Hertz and National rental cars are located at the airport.

Travel by Train

Most attendees at the convention will drive or come to New England by plane. Alternatively, a wide variety of Northeast Corridor and long-distance Amtrak trains serve Boston’s South Station. Rental cars are not available in the station, but Avis, Enterprise, National, and Alamo have rental locations in the downtown area a short cab ride away.

Amtrak’s Downeaster trains to Maine arrive and depart from Boston North Station. Passengers transferring between Downeaster trains and other Amtrak services must arrange their own transportation between North Station and South Station. The Downeaster serves Portland, Freeport and Brunswick, ME. None of the Maine stations have rental cars on site, but Enterprise and Hertz offer rentals in downtown Portland.

Experience has shown that Amtrak trains arriving in Boston are subject to the same time-keeping challenges that appear elsewhere on the system. Be cautious of planning close connections on Amtrak.

Maine shares a long border with Canada. U.S. citizens wishing to visit Canada should note the travel requirements to enter Canada. Canadians traveling to the convention should consult the requirements to enter the U.S.
